Our micro flower farm is located on the 700 acre family beef and sheep farm in the misty valleys of North East Victoria. It is a tiny little plot sitting at a 1/2 acre that produces an abundance of blooms. We try our best to not interrupt the soil structure as where we are located is primarily clay, instead of ploughing we build layers on top creating raised beds and healthy soils! This is our version of the no-dig method to growing.

Our current range is focused on romantic flowers that are best straight from the plant, this incorporates garden style roses, hydrangeas, sweet pea and dahlias, with some very delicious raspberries acting as windbreaks on the edges. The conditions are perfect for growing a lot of annual and perennial blooms, the cool frosty winters give everything a nice break and our mild autumns and springs and warm summers allow the plants to bloom heavily for almost half of the year!

The flower farms focus is to grow flowers to use for our weddings and we love being able to show our brides their blooms being grown from seed to being used on their wedding day.

Our farm is honed into the seasons spend, and we spend as much time as possible out in the patch weeding and planting and pruning through the year.

A year on the micro farm looks a little bit like this:

Summer our flowers are in full swing with the spring blooms like ranunculus, sweet peas and anemone finishing as the roses, cosmos and hydrangea come into their own. Towards the end of summer the dahlias arrive and bring with them so many creation ideas, summer is Sophie’s favourite season of cut flowers!

Autumn is the dahlias time to shine, we are getting the last roses and hydrangea and getting ready to plant our seeds and corms to over winter. On March 17 every year our spring sweet peas go in and then in May we lift the dahlias to store over winter.

Winter is the quiet time flowers wise, we have some winter roses to use and spend a majority of our time dividing dahlias and working on our soil health, pruning roses and preparing for spring propagation and germination.

Spring kicks off with the lilac and ranunculus followed by the sweet pea and all of our other blooms, all of our annual seed is planted and tended to and we enjoy the warmer days weeding the spring growth and getting the final pieces into place for the summer season.
